It's finally Friday, and it's payday so double whammy for me! I'm excited this week about it being Friday as I will hop on the bus this afternoon and take off for Trenton for the Pedro football game, then turn around and come home just to get up at 6:00 and take off for Gainesville and my racing weekend! Tara and I are all packed and raring to go! A weekend of racing, relaxing and being away from everything excites me just typing about it.
Last night our freshman squad beat Middleburg 36-0, and could have beaten them much worse but they stopped trying to score at the start of the 4th quarter. Our JV did not fare so well as they were trailing 22-7 at the start of the 4th when I left. I was in on the team feeding and Bible study for the Jv, and got to pray with the freshman team before the game. The freshman team was impressive with several kick returns for touchdowns, and the only time the offense really got stopped was on miscues, rarely did they even get slowed down from gaining atleast 3-4 yards.
Some personal highlights for our Freedom athletes included Brad Collyer getting several tackles and fumble recovery at Nose Guard for teh Falcon freshman team. Also, last night was a big night for the Jacket freshman team as they defeated Fleming Island 28-0. Phillip Worthington had 4 catches, one of which was for a touchdown and Kyle Cubbedge and Josh Klingerman got to play the majority of the game as well.
So our young athletes are making us proud and quickly becoming leaders on their squads on and off the field.
I did have a neat opportunity in my Betty Griffin House position yesterday morning as I drove up to Mandarin for a men's small group at Mandarin Presbyterian Church. They are looking to get involved in our efforts to stop domestic and sexual violence in St. Johns County. THis group is actively praying for me in my endeavors as well as allowing me to train them to go out into the community in the north part of our county and speak on our behalf. But, yesterday I did some training for them and the neat thing about it was I was able to open and close the training with prayer. You have no idea what a difference it makes in me as a speaker to be able to pray during my presentations. I usually have to pray out in the truck and then walk in and get bombarded by worldliness, but yesterday was different and cool!
So, I will give you and update on my racing endeavors(win or lose I'm gonna love it) on Monday and we wish you all a great weekend!
Go Falcons, Go Gators, Go Redskins!
